Daniel Allen Campbell, better known by his stage handle “MCDC,” was a tight end for the National Football League’s Detroit Lions prior to becoming a coach. Campbell was born on April 13, 1976.
From 2016 to 2020, Campbell worked for the New Orleans Saints as their tight ends coach and associate head coach. From 2010 until 2015, Campbell was an assistant coach for the Miami Dolphins, most notably in the positions of tight ends coach and interim head coach.
The New York Giants selected Campbell in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft (79th overall). Campbell started four games in 2000 and was a member of the squad that competed in the Super Bowl XXXV. Campbell replaced Howard Cross as the team’s regular starting tight end in 2001, moving up the depth chart and primarily serving as a blocking tight end.
Tiki Barber’s 1,387 rushing yards in 2002 ranked second in team history, and Kerry Collins’ 4,073 passing yards set a club record thanks to his blocking.
Campbell was one of the first free agents to join with the Dallas Cowboys in 2003, the year Bill Parcells was hired as head coach.
Campbell immediately rose to the position of captain and continued his vital job as an offensive line blocker, even though Jason Witten eventually took over as the team’s starting tight end.
