Pretty Little Liars recap: Season 6, Episode 6: No Stone Unturned

August 2024 · 5 minute read

Another week on “Pretty Little Liars,” another A theory presented enthusiastically and then dismantled like those creepy dolls A is always leaving around.

The episode title, “No Stone Unturned,” refers to Lesli Stone, Mona’s mysterious frenemy, who was revealed to have spent a good deal of time at Radley.  The Liars spent much of the episode convinced that Lesli was the person who had tortured them in the bunker and theorized that she somehow blamed them for Bethany’s death.

Ultimately, the Liars decide that Lesli is a mere speedbump on the way to finding Charles. I’d categorize this episode as more of a speedbump than a destination, but there were still some landmarks on the way. We also were traveling in a stolen car. Let’s recap!

Lesli isn’t A — at least, not according to Mona, who says that Lesli is secretive simply because she’s unstable. Mona isn’t exactly the most trustworthy character, but Hanna and Spencer did find a multi-pack of Lesli’s thick black (non-prescription) frames her SUV. If buying “grandma glasses” (h/t Hanna) in bulk doesn’t say psychopath, I don’t know what does.

Let’s talk about Lesli’s Range Rover. Hanna pulled quite the stunt to “borrow” it from a Philly valet. You know, the old “I forgot my ticket and forgot what my key looks like” stunt? Also known as: the one that would never work in real life. I laughed in spite of myself when Hanna told the unsuspecting valet: “You saved my life … love you.”

Hanna bought some time for her and Spencer to go through Lesli’s car. The really concerning find was in the trunk where Lesli kept four large animal cages. It took Hanna a minute to catch on:

Hanna: For what?

Spencer: For us.

While #GrandTheftHanna and Spencer were narrowing in on Lesli’s motivations, Emily and Aria were dealing with more personal matters. A very cagey Aria went back to Hollis to return the negatives she stole from Clark, who turned up at the school and assumed that Aria stole them because she wasn’t comfortable with the photographs he took of her.

Clark has already made his interest in Aria known, but she seems increasingly anxious around him. Perhaps it’s because she still has feelings for Ezra, who she admitted is still the person who makes her feel safe. Aria’s anxiety can also be attributed to the fact that she returned to the junkyard and found a doll-size replica of her 9th grade self with a needle through the eye. She came close to telling Ezra about everything, but decided against it.

Ezra clearly still has feelings for Aria as well, but he — and we — met someone that could turn out to be a potential, possibly age-appropriate love interest for Rosewood’s erstwhile English teacher. Emily’s friend Nicole, who volunteered with Em in Haiti, made a surprise visit to The Brew. Is it just me or were there sparks?

Nicole was in town to offer Emily the chance to do another Habitat trip, this time in Thailand. Emily was hesitant at first, but excitedly agreed to the trip once she realized that she could whisk Sara away to a safer location. In a not-at-all-surprising plot development, Emily has developed apparent feelings for Sara. “I’ve only known her for a couple of weeks, but it’s just been intense,” Emily tells Nicole. To be honest, I like Sara a lot more myself after finding out she doesn’t even know what or who a Kimye is. How refreshing! Em and Sara got a lot closer this week, sharing an intimate makeout session that seemed to have been brewing for a few episodes.

What Sara didn’t know was that Emily had originally been looking for a chip in Sara’s neck. This is an actual thing that happened to the Liars, who paid a visit to Lesli’s animal testing lab and discovered that they beeped when they came in close contact with a sensor. The girls believe the chip was implanted when they were in the bunker, which makes sense in a PLL sort of way.

What a scene, am I right? After a particularly disturbing flashback to her time in the dollhouse, Hanna decided that no creature — human or animal — would be locked up on her watch. She set a raccoon and several rats free, which seemed like a fine idea until it wasn’t. The raccoon was not very friendly and the rats were excitable. One ended up on Aria.

Thank goodness for Mona, who showed up unannounced to the lab and coaxed the animals back in their cages. She also shared some important, though unproven, information about Lesli. According to Mona, Lesli hated Bethany. The real takeaway is that it wasn’t just Bethany who went missing from Radley. Charles escaped with her. This happened after Charles was supposed to have died. As we’ve suspected for weeks, Charles is almost certainly alive.

This leaves us with an ominous final scene: Mr. DiLaurentis digging up a grave while staring at a threatening note that may have been left on his car: “Dear Daddy coming home for my birthday. You should plan a party to die for. Just you. Love, Charles.”

Lingering questions: Did Lesli have a role in the dollhouse? Is Mona working for A? Are Sara and Emily going to a thing? Would they even have a cute couple name: Semily? Emara? Open to suggestions.
